THE—POETICS OF FORM
A study in Mediterranean minimalism, The White Arch utilizes a series of sweeping, organic curves to define its primary living spaces. The stark, lime-washed exterior provides a canvas for the dramatic shadows cast by the Portuguese sun, emphasizing a "quiet luxury" through the total absence of unnecessary ornament.
THE—STAIRCASE RADIANCE
At the heart of the residence lies a sculptural spiral staircase, illuminated by a hidden circular skylight. This vertical axis connects the grounded, cool masonry of the lower floors to the open-air terraces above, facilitating a natural flow of air and light that breathes life into the monolithic structure.
THE—COOL MASONRY
The thick walls are constructed using traditional techniques, providing natural insulation against the intense summer heat. Interior floors are finished in a seamless micro-cement, creating a sense of continuity between the indoor and outdoor zones. The palette is restricted to white, bone, and sand tones to enhance the sense of space.
THE—SHADOW ARCHITECTURE
Architecture in this region is as much about the shadow as it is the light. The deep recesses of the arches provide shaded outdoor corridors that remain cool throughout the day. This project is a celebration of the slower pace of life, where the building itself acts as a sanctuary from the intensity of the Mediterranean climate.
